St Johns Church Anglican
June Joy at the Vicarage
Both of our Annual Parochial Church Meetings (APCMs) have now taken place and I am delighted to welcome a new church warden, a new treasurer and several new Parochial Church Council members to our ranks. Sadly Lesley Slater is still the sole Church Warden at Burton Leonard although we do now have another deputy warden. Many thanks to those who have retired from various duties as officers of either church and service on the PCCs, your generosity of time and ability has been greatly appreciated in the various roles you inhabited.
On Friday 20th June at 2pm in the church, there will be a celebration of the life of John Hainsworth a previous Church Warden and long time supporter of the church and the village. All are warmly invited to come and remember him, support his family and give thanks for his work in support of our village community.
Our annual Strawberry Cream Teas with raffle and tombola on the lawns of the Vicarage will be held on Sunday 22nd June from 2-4pm. This is a fundraising effort for both our churches, and we would be delighted to welcome you and have your company. Please see the advert elsewhere in the magazine for further details and do come and enjoy some delicious scones and fresh strawberries. Tombola and Raffle prizes would be greatly appreciated and may be left with wardens or at the vicarage. Offers of help set up on the afternoon of Saturday 21st June would be gratefully received.
Later in June we have the celebration of the Birth of St John the Baptist with a joint service in St John’s Church on Sunday 29th June at 11am. This will be a Children Led Family Communion Service and will include the baptism of our newest and youngest church member, Will Carruthers. We shall be joined by Canon Wendy Dalrymple, the new Canon Pastor at the cathedral, who will lead the communion service. The service will be followed by refreshments celebrating Will’s baptism and then a Bring and Share lunch on the lawns of the vicarage.
How are you doing, or more particularly, how are your Potato Challenge buckets doing? The challenge numbers are slightly up n last year which is great. Don’t forget to make arrangements with neighbours to water your plants if you are going away for a few days!
Blessings
Robb
