A German artist once said “Everyone is an artist”. Have you have wondered if you have the ability to draw or paint or long to bring out your creative side? Well now is your chance to get involved in a fledgling art group that is starting up in the village next month.

Villager, Catherine Wyatt, is keen to get such a group started and has tentatively put out feelers to test the idea which have been positive enough for her to decide to try as at least 10 people have already expressed an interest.

Therefore, the first meeting of the Bishop Monkton Art Group will take place on Saturday, October 11th at a cost of £2. Participants will need to bring their own materials of paper, pencils and/or paints. The second session is scheduled for Saturday, November 8th and the final one of the year will be on Saturday, December 13th. All take place in the Methodist Schoolroom and run from 10 a.m. to 12 noon.

Each session will be themed and no experience is needed. The mornings will focus very much on like-minded individuals simply enjoying being creative in a relaxed social setting as well as developing their skills. Everyone is most welcome.

Full details of each session will be posted on the events column of this website.

Catherine, who has lived in the village for 16 years with her three sons and runs a tutoring business, will organise the sessions and is intending that they will be low key, relaxed, self-led with some guidance, not too formal and, very importantly, inexpensive, so that participants can really enjoy themselves. She urges no-one to have a moment's hesitation about just turning up-there is no need to book. After attending many craft workshops over the years and very much enjoying them she decided to see if there was anything similiar in the village.

Catherine says “I’ve always enjoyed crafting especially during the pandemic. I think that art is a way of switching off, being in the moment and just simply having a nice time. Anything you produce is a bonus!”.
