Table Tennis

The club was formed in 2011, very much by the enthusiasm of Richard Field.

Initially one session a week (Thursday) though we quickly grew so that there are now sessions every day other than Saturday's. We acquired 3 'old' tables to start with but with funds building, bought 3 new ones in 2013, replaced them in 2017 with full club standard models and again in 2021/2 with even more professional and convenient models. Each year a table will be used for approximately 700 hours! Our membership peaked at about 100 (just pre Covid) and now runs in the 90's.  About a quarter of members come from the village with the rest from a considerable area around.  Our use of the Village Hall is high - over 400 sessions a year, each lasting for about  hours.

We play every week of the year. There are 8 groups, spread across the week, each playing mainly doubles across 3 tables in the main room at the Village Hall.  A fourth table can be erected in the lounge for play, for using the practice machine or possibly for coaching. Standards vary a little across the groups and while competition can be keen there is a high degree of fun and enjoyment.  The weekday groups all have a mid session break for coffee and biscuits and a good chat.

Within each group there is an appointed Group Leader who really undertakes all of the weekly running of their group, they form part of the very infrequently meeting committee together with the Officials (Chair, Secretary, Treasurer) and representative on the Village Hall Management Committee.

We decided sometime ago just to play socially (which doesn't mean it is not competitive, some will always be!) but we have no team in the local leagues.  The Sunday evening session mainly comprises players who also play for a different club in the league, they play mostly singles and to a higher standard than our weekday groups.
