Everyone loves a good chit-chat and one of the topics of note (all in a good way) this last few days has been the planter, now prettily in its summer garb, that is greeting villagers and visitors coming into the village down Moor Road.

Thanks for this colourful display belong to Adrian (Gunner) Mardon who has taken the time to tidy up the planter, as well as smartly relaying some of the stones round the base. And doesn't it look great-thank you Gunner.

And judging by the reaction to a post on Facebook about this (56 likes and 20 positive comments and growing), many people are showing their approval and appreciation.

Gunner said “ The village gives so much that sometimes a little giving back doesn’t hurt anyone and if we all look after a bit, it can only be a good thing”.

Each of the four roads into the village have a similar planter, which fall under the jurisdiction of the Parish Council.

Dean Culshaw, Chair of the P.C., said “The condition of the village signs and planters was an agenda item last month and is on the agenda again this month".

"The Parish Council are delighted by the initiative shown by Gunner and the beautiful work he has done on the Moor Road planter. This kind of community spirit is what makes our village special and the Parish Council are happy to support any such initiatives. We have three more planters at the entrances to the village and funds available to support anyone willing to undertake some light gardening on them. Anyone interested should contact myself or any member of the PC so we can coordinate efforts."

If you feel you could help look after the planters, the Council would be delighted to hear from you. Please click to contact any member of the council or click to email the clerk.
