An exercise routine, Drum2Fitness, that sounds so much fun, is being trialled in Bishop Monkton this coming week.

Called Cardio Drumming this is an enjoyable, full body workout featuring a large Swiss ball, a flexi tub and a pair of drum sticks. It is being run by practitioner, Sara Trewhitt, in the Methodist Schoolroom on Thursday June 5th for an hour from 11.15 a.m. If it proves popular, and why shouldn't it, then it is hoped it might become a regular weekly fixture in the village.

This routine has proven health benefits and has been shown to improve both cognitive function (sharpening mind as well as body) and cardiovascular disease and can ease the symptoms of osteoporosis by stimulating bone health. It helps with hypertension, chronic pain and arthritis as well as boosting the the immune system and, with the rhythmic movements used during the class, endorphins are released that can reduce stress, anxiety and depression.

Sara says “This routine can burn a lot of calories and over 5000 steps per session can be achieved depending on each individual's ability. The class can be adapted for any ability, standing or seated- it is very inclusive. You do not have to have any rhythm, you just need to enjoy the pounding and uplifting music”.

All equipment is provided.

Cost is £5 for the trial-£10 per session if the class continues. Places are limited and pre-booking is required. If anyone would like to give it a go please contact Sara by email click or telephone 07814 199367.
