Despite an extremely wet Saturday when, over a period of 24 hours, 89 mm (3.5 inches) of rain fell, making many places along the 10km BeckBuster route impassable, the race, scheduled for the following day, went ahead as planned and on time, thanks to the monumental efforts of the team behind the event. Organised by the Friends of Bishop Monkton School (FOBMS), the race, now in its eighth year, proved once again a huge success, firmly establishing itself as a popular date on the village's annual calendar. Certainly the residents of Lawnfield Road, which suddenly became part of a hastily revised and re-marked route, will never forget Beckbusters 2025 as they enjoyed an unexpected grandstand view of over 200 runners pelting along in front of their windows.

Thanks to Vic Porter, Chair of FOBMS, for sending in the report below.

“BeckBusters 2025 was held on Sunday 21st September.

The extremely wet weather on Saturday caused the River Ure to burst its banks causing a significant proportion of the route to flood and the route was therefore unfit to run. This meant that we needed to make a decision to either find a new route or cancel the 10km race. The BeckBusters Committee was determined that we would try to find an alternative route to allow the race to go ahead and we were delighted that we successfully managed to identify and mark out a new route in time for the race start. The weather on Sunday was perfect for a run and we had some amazing feedback from runners and spectators which we really appreciated.

We welcomed 282 runners into the village on Sunday. The 10km race was won by Adam Stanley from Harrogate Harriers and AC in 36mins 33secs while first female was Julia Morgan from Ripon Runners in 43mins 20secs. We had some fantastic support from the local running clubs with a highly competitive women’s team race being won by Ripon Runners with the male team race being won by Harrogate Harriers.

The fastest villager competition was this year won by Michael Bird (52mins 24 secs) and Hilary Philpott (54mins16 secs) both members of Ripon Runners. Isabelle Forsythe, a pupil at Ripon Grammar School, won the 2km race for the third time.

We would like to thank our sponsors, all our amazing marshals, the runners and of course the residents of Bishop Monkton. We really love having the opportunity to showcase our amazing village, our school and the beautiful countryside which surrounds us.

Early figures suggest that we have raised over £4,200 for Friends of Bishop Monkton School."
