The Battle of Marston Moor in 1644, commemorated with a memorial just off the A59, was a key turning point in the Civil War, leading to the ultimate victory of Oliver Cromwell’s Parliamentarians and the defeat, and subsequent execution of King Charles I.
Yorkshire military historian Dave Cooke will provide a full story of the battle not far from York in which 4,000 people were killed, including the background to why it took place near here.
