North Yorkshire Council has kicked off the long process of consultation which will eventually determine whether new housing developments happen in Bishop Monkton.

Yesterday the Council invited comments on the overall principles of the new Local Plan which they are required to draw up as a result of local government reorganisation in 2023.

Back in January, NYC released a list of sites across the county, including six in Bishop Monkton, which had been identified by developers and landowners for possible development in the future.

However, the first stage of consultation is unlikely to include any specific discussion of sites but will focus on a general assessment of housing and other needs.

At last week's Annual Parish Meeting both the Parish Council and BMAG said they were committed to engaging with the consultation process to ensure that Bishop Monkton's interests were properly represented.
