As the days start to shorten and with that smell of Autumn pervading through the air, it is now fast approaching the time to harvest your potatoes, planted and nurtured so carefully over the long summer months.

Garden forks pristinely cleaned, ready to dig, scales calibrated, it is almost Weigh-In time, marking the culmination of the Great Bishop Monkton and Burton Leonard Potato Challenge.

Sunday September 14th is when various prizes will be awarded to the winning growers. Who will grow the heaviest overall crop, produce the most potatoes and how much will the heaviest individual potato weigh? Over 90 buckets were sold for this year's challenge so there could be rather a lot of potatoes.

Book the date in your diary and go along at 2 p.m. to Burton Leonard Primary School Playing Fields and join in the fun. Take along a picnic mat, enjoy the refreshments on offer, listen to the music and cheer on the winners. Children's games will be organised and there will a raffle.

And of course the sun will shine!!! Everyone very welcome.

All proceeds will be shared between the two Anglican churches and the Methodist Chapel.

The organisers would politely ask people to pay only by cash.
