An fully-funded scheme designed to make small environmental improvements around Bishop Monkton could help reduce flooding in the village. A representative from Ousewem, the organisation behind the scheme, spoke at last week's Annual Parish Meeting to explain how it can work.

The organisation has already worked with one local landowner to make improvements to water management on their land. It's claimed this type of intervention can reduce the amount of water flowing into the centre of the village. The costs of the interventions are met by the scheme which is funded by DEFRA. Ousewem is working closely with the village's Flood Action Group and is identifying more landowners for involvement in the plan.

At the Parish Meeting, one villager questioned how the Scheme would work given the plan to build a solar farm on a significant part of the land covered by the scheme.
