Early April everyone collected their individual seed potato and bucket from the Vicarage and with eager anticipation they were planted and nurtured in readiness for the ‘BIG WEIGH-IN’ on September 14th.

From 2 p.m. on the big day entrants were invited to bring along their prize exhibits! Buckets arrived in wheelbarrows, on the back of a bike and cuddled in arms. Hopes were high!

The stage was set! A queue formed and each bucket was emptied, the produce gathered, weighed and statistics taken.

Bucket bulging, No 48 (Dave Whincup) stepped up to the stage! Potatoes weighing in at a colossal 6.52 kg, the ‘Heaviest Overall Crop’ winner was crowned!

Richard Taylor, No 12, with 26 potatoes was awarded ‘Most Potatoes in a Crop’.

'Heaviest Individual Potato’, 0.64 kg, was awarded to Marcia Crossley, No 45.

The ‘Children’s Category - Heaviest Overall Crop’ was won by William and Olivia Beckwith, No 109. Their potatoes weighed in at 1.5 kg.

Sophie Clarkson was the winner of the vegetable themed colouring competition, judged by Rev’d Robb.

Homemade cake and biscuits sweetened any disappointment on the day.

Over £1,077 was raised, which will be shared equally between the two parish churches and the Methodist Chapel in Bishop Monkton. All competitors and volunteers were thanked for taking part and making the event the great success it always is. And it looks set fair to continue as plans are already in hand for Challenges in 2026 & 2027.
