Bishop Monkton School turned the clock back 150 years yesterday (Friday) when they staged a Victorian Day as part of the 'Best Years of Our Lives' project. Children and staff dressed in Victorian costume, lunch was a simple picnic eaten outside, and nineteenth century classroom rules were 'enforced' throughout the day.

It was all part of the project run over the past year with the village's Local History Group to record and share the school's history. More than fifty people attended a second screening of the film made as part of the project and sales of the book took place. An exhibition of class photos through the ages and artwork done by current pupils inspired by the school history was also in place in the School Hall.

The exhibition will also be viewable on Monday between 12 noon and 4pm as part of the Village Fun Day. The book will also be on sale at the School and at the Local History Group stand on Main Street.

More than 100 people have now seen the film and it's likely that a further screening will be organised in the next few weeks. The film will be posted on the internet in due course.
