The Village's Bowling Club held their first strawberry cream tea recently and to say it was a resounding success seems something of an understatement judging by the comments received.

"The tea was fantastic and the service immaculate -if you hadn’t bought a ticket you will have missed a great event,” said one participant, while another remarked “It was not just about raising funds, it was about friendship and community. It sounded like a great mix of both".

Secretary of the Club, Sue Edmond, sent the website this report-thank you Sue.

Sue writes: “The Bowling Committee plan their fundraising and social events for the calendar year in February and therefore never imagined that they would be having their first venture into offering a strawberry cream tea to villagers, club members and their friends in temperatures of 29 degrees. They had at one point discussed having the event outside with their only worry being that the flies might bother everyone! With the new blinds firmly down and the fans on in the hall the temperature was ideal with not a fly to be seen and no cream melting.

With 30 people attending the tea the conversation flowed with everyone enjoying the food on offer - some even requested a "doggy bag".

Since the event, the committee have had positive feedback and lots of requests to repeat the cream tea again - this will happen next year, but not on the weekend after the Great Yorkshire Show and on ladies finals day at Wimbledon.”

Sounds like this might well be another welcome and much anticipated fixture on the busy Bishop Monkton village calendar.
