Both the chair and vice-chair of the Parish Council, Stephen Verrill and Sheila Parsons respectively, have tendered their resignations to the clerk of Bishop Monkton Parish Council. This brings to three the number of vacancies on the Council as earlier this month, Kai Shand also handed in his notice as he was moving away from the village.

There are now three remaining councillors so the Council remains quorate, is fully operational, can meet regularly and make decisions. Due to agenda timings, a councillor will be nominated by other councillors to chair the next meeting on November 19th with a proper election (by councillors) for the chair in December which then applies until May, the start of the new financial year.

For the vacancies of Mrs. Parsons and Mr. Shand, nominations, supported by ten parish electors have to be made by December 3rd, otherwise the vacancy will be filled by co-option. If an election is called, this will take place no later than February 10th.

In the case of Mr. Verrill, nominations will need to be handed in by December 6th with an election no later than February 13th.

The Council have kindly issued the following statement to the website.

“The Parish Council would like to thank Stephen and Sheila for their many years of service. Both put a lot of work in, particularly during the pandemic and had to serve when we were short of Councillors. Their contribution to the village over these last few years has been considerable. Our focus now, is on getting the council back up to strength and serving the residents of Bishop Monkton”
