If you missed the screenings of the 'Best Years of Our Lives' film about the history of education in the village or you've not yet got a copy of the book associated with the project, don't worry!

Further screenings of the film, widely described as 'very emotional', 'very professional' and 'highly informative' will take place on Wednesday 25th June at 3.45pm in the School Hall and also at 7pm in the Village Hall. It's free entry, just turn up. The film lasts just under forty minutes.

The accompanying book, 128 pages with over sixty pictures, has already sold well but copies are still available either from the School Office during normal school hours or from the Local History Group via Colin Philpott on 07791 341074 or [email protected] - the book costs £10 with the proceeds (after production costs) going to the Friends of Bishop Monkton School. The book will also be on sale at the film screenings on 25th June.

Both the film and the book cover the history of Bishop Monkton School, other earlier private schools in the village and the Mechanics' Institution - once a centre for adult education here. The project was a joint venture between the Local History Group and Bishop Monkton School with financial support from two funders, the Mukherjee Johnson Trust and the Two Ridings Community Foundation. This enabled the use of a professional camera operator and editor and the use of an established publisher for the book. All the Local History Group members working on it were volunteers.
